The Diamond League 18u All Star Game was a great success! Despite having to change venues, the game turned out to be stellar. The Blue team won 3-2 by a walk off single by Vince Donato in the bottom of the 9th.
The game began with a moment of silence for the passing of Darrell Jennings. He founded the Boys of Summer organization 30+ years ago which was a staple in the Akron area. The Boys of Summer was an original member of the Diamond League 20 years ago.
The game was lead by great pitching, outstanding defense, and clutch hitting. The Red team took a 2-0 lead in the top of the 3rd inning with a single by Frontino. The Blue cut the lead to 2-1 with a single by Kazimour in the bottom of the 4th. Pitching and defense took over the game until the bottom of the 9th. With the bases loaded and two outs, Vince Donato singles driving home two runs to end the game.
I want to congratulate all participants in the All Star Game as you are officially first team All Diamond League for 2017. Also I want to thank Jim Lucchese and Bob Fortenbaugh for coaching the Red team and Jerry DeMarino and Dan Wisniewski for coaching the Blue team.
Also a special thank you to Jake Miceli of Berea Midpark Athletics for getting and preparing the field on such short notice. We were looking forward to playing at historic League Park, but we found out in the morning of the damage to the field from the weekend. With such short notice, Jake was able to accomodate us for such a great game!
