HUDSON, Ohio (June 9, 2025)- In pool play, Release Baseball Harrison lost to Snappers Baseball 1-0. However, in the finals, Release Harrison got redemption by seizing the momentum early and never looking back, winning the Tim Lally Memorial Diamond League Tournament 16U division title by a score of 8-5.
Release Harrison got on base quickly with a double and a walk. Then, Leo DeAngelo hit a perfectly placed swinging bunt to put Release Harrison on the board. In the bottom of the first, pitcher Jack Collins cemented Release Harrison’s momentum by striking out the side.
In the second inning, Will Crooks doubled, then Trey Powers hit a deep triple to center field to bring in a run. Powers would score later in the inning off a Jack Collins sacrifice fly. Will Powers powered the Release Harrison offense with two hits, two runs and 3 RBIs.
In the bottom of the third, the Snappers closed the gap by loading the baes, then cashing two runners in off a bases loaded walk and a fielder’s choice.
Release Harrison would not allow the Snappers’ runs to faze them, as they extended their lead in the top of the fourth inning. After getting on base with walk and a single, Trey Powers and Dashel Heimlick went for a double steal. The throw to catch Powers missed, which allowed him to score. Heimlick came home on a second Jack Collins sacrifice fly to make the score 5-2 Release Harrison.
The Snappers fought back in the bottom of the fourth with a 2-run single by Jimmy Biondi to cut the deficit back to one, but Release Harrison would soon extend their lead. DeAngelo and Powers both hit RBI singles to make the score 8-4 Release Harrison. Louis DeAngelo’s two RBI singles provided crucial runs for Release Harrison.
In the bottom of the fifth and final inning, the Snappers seemed to mount a charge. Jackson Briggs hit an RBI double which was followed by another double by Blake Moore. With the tying run at the plate, Release Harrison got two strikeouts to secure the tournament title.
